Premium Car Rental

The pre-rental inspection, and why to film it

Two minutes of video at handover settles almost every damage dispute. What to capture, and what our own condition report already covers.

We photograph every car and produce a signed condition report at handover, and that report is what a dispute is settled against. Do your own video anyway. It takes two minutes, it is timestamped, and it is yours — which means you are not asking someone else to produce the evidence that clears you.

Film a slow walk-around in good light. All four corners, both flanks, the front and rear, then the glass and the roof, then the interior, then the dashboard with the odometer and the fuel gauge visible in the same frame.

What people forget to capture

Wheels. Kerb rash on a rim is the single most disputed damage on a luxury hire, and it is invisible in a photograph taken from three metres away. Get close enough that each rim face fills the frame. Windscreen chips are the second — they are almost impossible to see later in a wide shot, and they spread.

The roof is worth a deliberate shot on anything tall. Nobody looks at the roof of a G 63 at handover, and nobody can prove anything about it afterwards. Then do the whole thing again on return, before you hand the keys over, in the same light if you can.
