Nissan Patrol — White

This is the current Patrol — the redesigned one, with the split headlights, the upright grille and the flat slab sides, not the rounded shape it replaced. Ours came in new this year, and the protective film was still on a headrest when these were taken.

The dashboard is the full-width glass panel: instruments and centre screen sitting under one sheet, with the gear selector moved onto the column so the console is left free. Seats are brown with quilted bolsters and contrast stitching, under a pale headlining that keeps a car this tall from feeling like a cave.

Three rows, four-wheel drive, and the boot behind the third row still takes a weekend's luggage. The family car for people not inclined to apologise for its size.
