The S 680 is the only S-Class still built with a V12 — 6.0 litres, 612 hp, 900 Nm — and it is tuned entirely for smoothness rather than pace. Rear-axle steering makes a car this long far easier to manoeuvre than it looks.

The back is the point. Two executive seats recline with calf supports, each with its own screen and a fixed console between them, and the doors close themselves. For airport transfers and client days it does almost everything a Phantom does for a good deal less.
